Skills: UI Design
Since debuting in 2008, the ESPN Trade Machine has become a staple of NBA internet culture. Loaded with roster and payroll data, this web app allows armchair execs to build mock trades and hypothetically improve their favorite teams.
Despite being a hit with fans and journalists, the Trade Machine’s interface has never been updated. As a personal project, I gathered user feedback in hopes of addressing some of the issues that have emerged over the years.
Among the loudest complaints was that the Trade Machine lacked mobile-friendliness. To date, mobile users have been met with a non-responsive web page that’s hard to read and even harder to navigate. As an alternative, I designed a concept that lives within ESPN’s mobile app and features a roomy interface that’s optimized for touchscreen use.
